Every WC pan stands in a space at least this size, the door opening into it or out of it. Where females' facilities provide space for a portable sanitary disposal unit (1.2.1 b), it is the dashed space beside the pan.

- Having features that let a person with a disability use it.
- Accessible routeDefinitions
- An access route a person with a disability can use: continuous, managed by a wheelchair user unaided, from the street boundary or car park to the spaces that have to be accessible.
- Household unitDefinitions
- A building, or part of one, used mainly to live in and lived in by no more than one household. Not a hostel, boarding house or other specialised accommodation.
- ImperviousDefinitions
- Not letting moisture through.
- PrivacyDefinitions
- Being withdrawn from view.
- PrivyDefinitions
- A private room with a receptacle other than a WC, or an excavation, for human waste, and a way of disposing of or holding it.
- Sanitary fixtureDefinitions
- Any fixture meant to be used for washing or excretion.
- Soil fixtureDefinitions
- A sanitary fixture made to receive human waste: a WC pan, a urinal, a bedpan disposal unit, a slop sink, a water-flushed sanitary towel disposal unit.
